Risk Management Practitioner (RMP)
CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
This five-day certificate program provides the essential building blocks to establish, develop, and embed risk management as a business process in your public sector organization. These workshops provide participants with a comprehensive grounding in the practical application of risk management practices, including the tools and information to assure their organization's risk management program meets all applicable rules, regulations and follows best practices. The five courses in the program may be taken in any order, although it is recommended that you take them sequentially if possible.
The program is specifically designed for Human Resources managers, analysts and assistants, risk management and workers’ compensation specialists, and front-line supervisors who are responsible for, or have as an aspect of their job, risk management and claims management duties.

How much can you get?
- Up to $10,000 in total per year
- Max $2,000 per person, per year
What’s needed to apply?
- Complete the application form (access via the CAJPA website).
- Write a statement of purpose explaining your career goals and how the scholarship will help you grow.
- Upload proof of enrollment/registration for the program or course you plan to take
Deadline:
- Apply by October 15, 2025
- You’ll hear back by January 31, 2026
Selection:
The CAJPA Professional Development Committee will review applications based on eligibility, career potential, and how the chosen development activity supports your career in risk management and insurance.

John Keenan Memorial Scholarship Program
About the Program
This special scholarship program honors the legacy of John Keenan, a true pioneer in the JPA industry. Mr. Keenan was a firm believer that JPAs help public agencies retain their valuable dollars for risk management success rather than passing on those benefits to insurance companies. As a dedicated supporter of CAJPA, his impact continues to inspire the next generation of JPA professionals.
Scholarship Benefits:
Attend the CAJPA Annual Fall Conference, completely free! In addition to complimentary conference registration, recipients may also receive financial assistance for travel expenses.
Eligibility:
- An employee or a member of CAJPA or is a member of a CAJPA member
How much can you get?
- Value at over $800
What’s needed to apply?
- Complete the application form (access via the CAJPA website).
- Submit a letter of recommendation
- A 300-word essay about your current and future career goals
Deadline:
- Applications accepted year-round.
Selection:
Upon approval of their application by CAJPA staff and ratified by the Board of Directors at their regularly scheduled meetings, applicants will be notified if they win.
