The City of Stockton, CA is seeking a Principal Civil Engineer!

The Principal Civil Engineer will be responsible for managing a Development Engineering Team in the Department that performs reviews of improvement plans for public infrastructure required on new development, subdivision maps, lot line adjustments/mergers in accordance with the Subdivision Map Act, all for the ultimate consideration and approval by the City Engineer; and issues encroachment permits for all construction and related activities that occur within the City of Stockton rights-of-way. The successful candidate has extensive experience applying and upholding improvement standards and specifications, understanding and capabilities in applying the California Subdivision Map Act, and possesses strong leadership skills and capabilities in applying responsible engineering judgment.

The Principal Civil Engineer has experience leading an Engineering Team through complex and multidisciplinary civil engineering projects, from planning and design to implementation and evaluation, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and sustainability. The selected candidate has the ability to problem-solve to address project related issues, and the ability to identify alternative solutions. In addition, the candidate has demonstrated project management skills, such as setting and monitoring project goals, timelines, and budgets, coordinating with stakeholders and contractors, and managing risks and changes. It is also essential that the candidate have strong oral and written communication skills, as well as customer service and collaboration skills to effectively communicate with internal and external clients in this role.
